A while ago we’ve talked about a project that was looking to put tomatoes on a blockchain; then, we thought we’ve seen it all. Now, we have something completely unrelated but cool nonetheless – the karate blockchain project, which — we would add — will kick ass more than any other blockchain gig. And which has proven us there is so much more we can expect from blockchain.
Bringing together the Karate community
Global karate organization BoutsPro wants to use blockchain to bring together an estimated 190-million strong karate community around the world, which is governed by different governing organizations based on the style of karate — ITKF, WKF and WFF.
The project makers claim that bringing all elements together needs a strong fund management system which can generate revenue from multiple sources, including sponsorship and advertisements.
Karate is different
In comparison with other popular sports, martial arts like karate are seldom (if every) learned alone. Whereas you can learn to play football on your own, students of karate (and other martial arts, for that matter) need an expert to personally guide them from the beginning. And this is where a platform could help, to connect teachers with students, with blockchain allowing for “trust management and efficiency on the technological level.”
“This will help to establish the system which can manage the whole system as well as the market requirements,” BoutsPro’s white paper reads.
In addition, a new, tech-savvy system could attract other companies that are not yet involved in karate, along with those already invested or involved in sponsorship of the sport. The hi-tech offering would effectively “transform traditional karate to professional karate,” according to BoutsPro.
The BOUTS token
BoutsPro has its own crypto token, marked as BOUTS, based on Ethereum Blockchain technology, with 1 ETH getting you 9,000 BOUTS.
These tokens will have multiple use cases; for instance, it will allow users to access lots of karate information relevant to them, such as details on ranking and tournaments, as well as access to training tips. Also, tickets will be available for purchase with BOUTS tokens, while clubs and teams will be franchised and sold on the revenue share module. Plus, there will be a dedicated online gaming platform that will enable users to participate with their BOUTS tokens.
Future plans
Looking into the future, BoutsPro is looking to launch the BoutsPro TV in partnership with QuickMedia and Pozetta Broadcasters, featuring live streaming and on-demand services for users. Also, they aim create content, movies included; inspired by the success of martial arts titles such as “Karate Kid,” BoutsPro thinks it would be feasible to produce “one world class movie based on karate, per year.”
And let’s not forget the plan to create new stadiums and dojos around the world for members, as well as launching specialized sports insurance for BoutsPro athletes.
ICO is under way
The ICO began on March 11th and will last through March 25th. There were no pre-sales or private sales — the team emphasizes that it is focused on equal opportunity. So if you ever wanted to support some project involving martial arts, now’s your chance. Check it out and see if this is something you find compelling. It’s your money, after all.
