1. Can I upgrade from Chase Sapphire Preferred?
Yes, but you won’t get the sign-up bonus that way. In order to get the bonus (100,000 points), you will have to apply for a new account. We don’t think that’s the problem, and it’s well worth the hassle.
2. Can I use both Chase Sapphire Preferred and the new Reserve card?
Yes, but that’s not the point as nearly all of the Preferred card’s benefits are included with the Reserve, so there is no reason to hold both cards (you can see how the two cards compare from here). You are best off downgrading Sapphire Preferred to a no-fee alternative like Chase Freedom Card or Chase Freedom Unlimited. You can also close the Sapphire Preferred but first you should make sure that doesn’t have a negative impact to your credit score. Call Chase and ask them whether that will be the case.
3. What’s the minimum credit limit for the Chase Sapphire Reserve?
As a Visa Infinite card, it requires a credit limit of at least $10,000. If you already have some Chase card, you can ask them to move over credit from an existing card to the Sapphire Reserve.
4: Can I add authorized users to Chase Sapphire Reserve?
Yes, with each additional authorized users costing $75 per year. As part of the deal, authorized users get a full Priority Pass Select membership.
5. What’s the best way to spend 100,000 Ultimate Rewards points?
There are a number of ways to spend the included sign-up bonus, worth $1,500 when redeemed for travel services through the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal. For an even better deal, we would advise transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Hyatt points, United Airlines miles or British Airways Avios. This way you can get more than 1.5 cents per Ultimate Rewards point.
6. What can I use the $300 annual travel credit for?
The good thing is that you can use it for pretty much any travel-related purchase, including airfare, rental cars, hotels (including Airbnb), taxi rides (including Uber), cruise lines, travel agencies, discount travel sites, trains, buses, limousines, ferries, toll bridges and highways, and parking lots and garages. So even if you don’t travel often outside of your own state, you can still take advantage of this feat.
7. Is United Club access included with Chase Sapphire Reserve?
Unfortunately not. This benefit comes included only with the United MileagePlus Club Card. You still get to access more than 900 airport lounges around the world. And you can use the travel credit to purchase individual entrances, if you fancy so.
8. Is some hotel elite status included with Chase Sapphire Reserve?
No, but you do get accelerated access to Club 5C status with Relais & Châteaux — it is required that you stay two nights at qualifying properties during a one-year period. The Club 5C benefits include room upgrades, invitations to exclusive events and complimentary access to each property’s special experiences.
9: Is Chase Sapphire Reserve better than Amex Platinum and/or Citi Prestige?
We would say YES. But there are still things that are included in these two cards that are missing from the Reserve. It is up to you to decide which of the three cards works best for you. For instance, if you frequently visit Hilton and/or Starwood properties, you may want to consider keeping the Amex Platinum which comes with Gold statuses for the two hotel chains. And the same goes for Citi Prestige — do you use its features regularly? You can see how Chase Sapphire Reserve compares with Amex Platinum from this page, and how it compares with Citi Prestige from here.
10. How long does it take to receive the Chase Sapphire Reserve card?
Chase is not offering expedited shipping with the Sapphire Reserve. From what we’ve understood, the card ships within a week and arrives 3-5 business days after that.
