If you do have some specific knowledge, chances are you want to become a publicly recognized expert in your field. Not only will that help you land more jobs, but will also be able to charge more for your work as people/companies tend to pay more individuals/companies they trust. Here’s how you can establish yourself as an expert in your industry.
1. Teach others
This step doesn’t necessarily mean you’re a great teacher, as you can share your knowledge online using services like Skillshare. In addition, you can also try out some other platforms or install software on your own website to get the full control over the learning environment.
2. Blog on other sites
Aside from your own website where you must have a blog, you should also try getting some space on other blogs and websites. Pitch a few publications and let them know about your field of expertise to see whether they accept guest blog posts or articles. Do your best to impress the editor and get some extra exposure.
3. Join the speaking circuit
Presuming you know how to speak publicly — if you don’t, that’s a skill you should learn — join a speaking circuit. In this step, you should also get familiar with the conferences and events taking place within your industry. Cyber-schmooze on social networking sites like Facebook and LinkedIn to meet people behind those events.
4. Connect with others
Join local meetups and start appearing in unofficial events organized by other professional within your industry. The chances are there are different events already happening in your area, so check them out. Get new connections as you may need those people later on.
