Chicago - tips

Chicago is one of America’s greatest cities. It’s also of the world’s most dynamic cities, offering something for everyone. Here we’ll present you with 5 fun things to do on your first visit to the city. Here comes…

1. Take a photo with “The Bean”

Chicago Bean

The official name of this monument is “Cloud Gate” but because of its shape, it’s widely known as “The Bean.” Located in Millennium Park and created by British artist Anish Kapoor, the sculpture is made up of 168 stainless steel plates welded together, offering incredible reflections of the city skyline. You’ll see a bunch of tourists taking photos there with a reason – they want to bring home a piece of Chicago.

2. Get the “Hot Dog Experience” at The Weiners Circle

We’re all used to polite staff at different restaurants. The Weiners Circle offers something completely different with their employees insulting people who buy hot dogs at their stand. It’s a fun and memorable experience since you don’t get to hear salesman/saleswomen yelling at its customers every day. Don’t get surprised if you hear the guy/gal asking female customers something like “What can I get you b**ch?” It’s hilarious.

3. Admire the view

Chicago has an impressive skyline and you’ll want to look at it from as many different angles as you can. For instance, you can check out Willis Tower where you can take photos while sitting in a glass box 1,353 feet in the air.

There’s also the John Hancock Observatory which is open all day, and where you can enjoy in 360 degree views across 4 states – Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin and Illinois. While here, you’ll notice just how fast the elevators are – they bring you up to 1,000 ft in just 40 seconds!

4. Giordano’s Chicago Stuffed Pizza is a must-try

But bear in mind the calories. Make sure you’re not alone when visiting Giordano’s as its stuffed pizzas are not only delicious but also heavy on calories. Moreover, you don’t want to remember this pizza as something you did all by yourself — sharing all that cheese is where the true fun is. And besides, most “regular” folks will be full after just one slice.

5. Hit the beach

Chicago has 28 miles of man-made beaches which are bursting with people during the city’s super-warm summers. North Avenue Beach in the Lincoln Park is one of the most popular parts of the beach where you can relax on the sand, dip your toes in the water, and watch as people do some fun activities along the waterfront.

This, of course, is just a start as Chicago has so much more to offer. If you would write your own list, what else would you include?
