Ex Googlers Form a Blockchain Alliance

If you’re a former Googler you gotta be smart, right? Now you have a blockchain alliance to join if you fancy so.

It is a fact that major companies such as Google strive to hire the most talented people in the world. Their current and former employees are among the brightest individuals, many of which have helped change the world. For to better or worse? It depends on the product we’re talking about, and your point of view.

Anyhow, it is hard to deny these are some smart folks and that they could do amazing things. Put blockchain technology in front of them, and they could perhaps even do much more, with no central authority grabbing our personal data.

And that’s pretty much what a trio of ex-Googlers is trying to do – to get more of “their kind” (ex-Googlers) on board with decentralized computing. So they’ve formed the xGoogler Blockchain Alliance (GBA), a new community for past and present Googlers interested in blockchain.

The brainchild of Hitters Xu, Daniel Wang, and Andy Tian — who now lead cool blockchain projects in China and beyond — the GBA is envisioned to serve as an open environment for inquiry, dialogue and development regarding blockchain technology.

GBA will address the talent shortage

On of the goals of the xGoogler Blockchain Alliance is to address the blockchain talent shortage.

According to TechCrunch, blockchain is second-fastest growing industry in today’s labor market, with 14 job openings for every one blockchain developer. The GBA hopes to attract the best people and perhaps see how they can help move the entire decentralized computing space forward.

The group consists of blockchain project founders, team members, investors and advisors who once worked at Google.

The trio of ex-Googlers responsible for the formation of the new alliance includes:

Hitters Xu
Hitters is a blockchain pioneer in China and founder of Nebulas, which is dubbed the next-generation public blockchain. He was previously part of the Search & Anti-Fraud team at Google, and would go on to found AntShares (NEO), and become the former director of
Ant Financial’s Blockchain Platform (Alibaba’s financial arm). Since 2013, Hitters also founded BitsClub (the first blockchain and bitcoin community in China), ICO365 (one of the country’s largest ICO platforms) and FBG Capital (one of the earliest crypto funds).

Daniel Wang
Founder of Loopring, a decentralized exchange and open protocol, Daniel is a former Tech Lead at Google, as well as co-founder & VP of Yunrang Technology, Senior Engineering Director at JD.com, co-founder & CEO of Coinport Exchange, co-founder & VP of Hygene Online, Senior Director & Blockchain Researcher of Zhongan Technology.

Andy Tian
Founder & CEO of Gifto, a decentralized universal gifting protocol, Andy is the CEO of Asia Innovations Group, which is a leading mobile entertainment group in Asia. He was previously general manager of Zynga China, and a Strategic Partnership Development Manager at Google, where he was responsible for bringing Android to Asia. Andy received his Bachelor and Master’s degrees in computer science from MIT.

This team wants to attract even more (ex)Googlers so they could advance each other’s ambitions in the blockchain space.

“Google has always been in the forefront of new technologies worldwide, from Android to AI,” said Andy Tian. “As Googlers, we can bring our unique experiences to expand blockchain’s influence, to everyone, everywhere.”

Googlers are invited to join the ride

The GBA community is currently active in San Francisco Bay Area, Beijing and Shanghai. All ex-Googlers are welcome to join it and help contribute to the future of blockchain.

Meanwhile, it is worth mentioning what Google itself is doing about blockchain and cryptocurrencies. While it has pursued a few blockchain-related patents — including those related to the “tamper proof” ledger system — it has also banned cryptocurrency-related ads. To be fair, many of those are shady, but still… we would like them to show just a bit more openness and perhaps semi-manually check ads so that the good stuff can find its audience.
