There is a reason why Macy’s is one of the most popular retailers in the U.S. Their stores are fancy, their staff is polite and chances are you like the brands they sell.
Whether you are on the lookout for clothing, accessories, home goods or some other item Macy’s is offering, you can save money on your next purchase with the company. Here are…
9 Easy Ways to Save at Macy’s
No need to leave any money on the table…
1. Check out the Deals and Promotions page
This is the page where you can learn about Macy’s latest promotions and special offers. Recent examples of deals on this page include an extra 10-30 percent off select items, $40 off when you buy two pairs of sunglasses, free beauty gifts, and more. You should check this page every time you want to buy something from Macy’s.
2. Buy during the One Day Sale
Each month, Macy’s offers a One Day Sale, which typically takes place during the third weekend of the month, but the timing can vary. For instance, December’s sale occurred in the first week. So yes, if you can, wait for that day. Then, while in the store, you’ll want to look for clearance items and use a coupon to maximize your savings.
3. Join the Thanks for Sharing program
It is Macy’s way of giving something back to the community. Available from between September and December, the program comes with an enrollment fee of $25, $10 of which goes to a charity such as the American Heart Association, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Make-A-Wish and others. For your effort, Macy’s will get you 10 percent back on most purchases through December 31st. These rewards will be delivered to you in the form of a Macy’s gift card in February.
4. Take advantage of price adjustments
Say you bought something and that item went on sale two days afterwards. That kinda sucks, right? Don’t worry though, Macy’s will adjust the price on sale items within 10 days of your in-store purchase, or within 10 days of your online order. In other words, the company will refund the difference.
5. Sign up for emails and texts
Don’t want to visit the Deals and Promotions page every day? No problem — let Macy’s latest deals come to you. Sign up for emails and texts from the retailer, and get an instant 15 percent off your next purchase of $100 or more (note that promotion may vary). It’s that easy.
6. Consider a Macy’s credit card
You can choose between Macy’s Credit Card and Macy’s American Express Card, the latter of which offers more benefits that come included as part of the Amex membership. Using each of the two cards comes with a number of perks, as well as the ability to earn Plenti points that can later be used at Macy’s and with certain other Plenti partners. The more you use the card, the more rewards you will earn, with Macy’s differentiating between those who use the card to spend up to $499 per year, those who spend between $500 and $1,199, and those who spend more than $1,200 with their Macy’s credit card. In addition, cardmembers can also score a “surprise in-store” at the register, as well as exclusive online shopping deals up to four times per year, and priority customer service when calling the retailer.
7. Get a pre-owned gift card
This is one of those universal shopping tips you should use at just about any store, with the idea to buy a gift card from someone who doesn’t need it. There are a few online marketplaces where you can buy pre-owned gift cards, and we suggest you try your luck with Gift Card Granny and Raise. At the time of writing this article, we managed to find a deal offering a Macy’s gift card with a 10 percent discount! (Related: 7 Gift Card Hacks to Help You Save Money)
8. Shop through a cash-back site
Another piece of universal shopping advice is to buy stuff through a cash-back site like Ebates. Right now, it is offering 6 percent off each purchase at Macy’s made through its site. This may not sound a lot, but then again — you don’t have to work a lot to get it. Plus, you can combine Ebates with other tools to maximize your savings.
9. Follow Macy’s on Social Media
This is where you can scoop additional deals and other special offers. Macy’s is present on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and YouTube. Make sure to follow, like and subscribe to their stuff and be among the first ones to know when the deal is on.
Final word
Don’t know about you, but I’m a big fan of Macy’s. It is one of those stores I visit on a regular basis, both with my husband and — more often — alone. He can’t take it that often, though we’ll see whether the situation changes now that I know these money-saving tips.
