Top 3 Greek Islands

It is hard to choose top 3 of anything, let alone the top islands to visit in Greece. Nevertheless, we want to give it a try…

It’s always hard to make lists and it’s even harder if you want to limit yourself to “top 3” of something. That, however, doesn’t mean one shouldn’t try doing so, and yes, we wanted to give it a try with Greek islands. So without further ado, here’s our list:

Mykonos – the party island

Mykonos

The legend (Greek mythology) says that Mykonos was the location of the battle between Zeus and the Titans with the island getting the name in honor of Mykonos, son of Anios who in turn was a son of Apollo and nymph named Rio. Today, the so called Greek Ibiza attracts young people from all around the world who can’t stop partying on the island’s beaches. The largest town, also called Mykonos, has narrow streets placed between the white cubist houses, making for a 24-hour rush hour.

Santorini – the beauty island

Santorini

You’ve probably seen a postcard with images of white houses and churches with blue roofs? That and many other postcards are shot at Santorini, which is arguably one of the most beautiful islands in the world, the fact that comes with a price tag. You’ll enjoy in the view, local wines and the very special air of the island. Size wise, Santorini occupies an area of 35 sq miles (90.69 km2) and has a population of 13,670 people.

Lefkada – great value for the money

Lefkada

If you’re looking to relax on beautiful beaches and don’t want to pay a premium for the benefit, Lefkada is the place to go. While it does have a bursting night life in the island’s biggest city, it also has an array of quiet spots. Porto Katsiki is one of the best-known beaches in Greece with super-clean water. Moreover it’s important to add that Lefkada is not an island in real terms as it’s attached to mainland Greece via an underwater tunnel. This means you can easily drive to Lefkada which is another plus.

Now we do realize some of you would also like to see Rhodes, Corfu and many other islands on the list, but as we said at the beginning – we wanted to limit the list somehow. Something’s gotta give…
